We are going to travel around the world to help different animals.  LOOK AT THE MAP!


INSTRUCTIONS

1Work in groups of 4 students.
2. Each group works on a continent.
3. Each group presents 2 animals.
 
 
 
 
4.  IN GROUPS, answer the questions related to your continent and its animals.


GROUP 1: NORTH AMERICA
 
This continent is North America where there are different places such as big mountains, deserts or tropical forests. Many endangered animals live in North America; the majority of them are mammals.

This is the KILLER WHALE and it is a big mammal; it is 8 meters long! It is a carnivore because it eats animals that live in the sea like sharks. Look at its skin! It is black and white. Moreover, the killer whale has got fins, a tail and… a dangerous mouth that is full of teeth.
The killer whale can swim and even jump. In addition, this is one of he most intelligent animals in the world.

The GREY WOLF lives in North America. Look at the photo! It is 2 meters long, is it big or small? The grey wolf is a mammal and a carnivore
because it eats small animals like rabbits, snakes or birds.
This mammal has got long fur because it is cold in the mountains where it lives; it has got 4 legs with claws and a long tail. They grey wolf can run very fast when it is hunting. In 1743 the last grey wolf died in Great Britain.

GROUP 2: SOUTH AMERICA 

This continent is South America. In this continent there are also endangered animals but they are tropical animals because the weather in South America  is hot and it rains a lot.

A BALD UAKARI is a monkey and lives in tall trees. It is a small mammal; it is only 0’5 meters long! A bald uakari eats fruits and insects, so it is an omnivore.
This monkey has got long and brown fur and a short tail. Look at its face! The bald uakary has got a special face because it is red. Be careful with its teeth because they are dangerous! It can jump.
This monkey is endangered because the forests were destroyed by people.

The SCARLET MACAW is a parrot that is 1 meter long; this is a big bird! It is an omnivore because this parrot eats fruits, flowers and small insects.
Look at its feathers! The scarlet macaw has got blue, yellow and red feathers, a long tail and a special beak. Moreover, it has got two big wings and claws.
This bird can fly and sometimes it can repeat words because it is very intelligent.

GROUP 3: ANTARCTICA
This continent is Antarctica. In Antarctica there is ice, so it is a very cold continent.
In Antarctica there are many endangered animals because this continent is disappearing.

The BLUE WHALE lives in the sea. It is a very big mammal; it is 30
meters long! The blue whale is the biggest animal in the world! It eats krill (a small animal) because it is carnivore.
This mammal has got big fins, a long tail and a very big mouth with 500 teeth! The blue whale can swim and jump. This animal is hunted by people, so today there are only 5000 blue whales.

The EMPEROR PENGUIN is a bird. This is the only bird that can lay eggs on ice. It is a carnivore because it eats small fishes.
This animal is a bird but it hasn´t got feathers but the emperor penguin has got a long beak and two wings. This bird can’t fly but it can swim very fast.
The emperor penguin is hunted by people so it is an endangered animal.

GROUP 4: AFRICA
This continent is Africa. In Africa the weather is very different, in the north it’s very hot and in the south it rains a lot.

The MOUNTAIN GORILLA is a big mammal that lives in cold mountains of Africa. It is 2 meter long! This animals eats plants (for example, fruits and flowers) so it is a herbivore.
This big mammal has got black fur and silver fur on the back. It hasn’t got claws but it has got hands like people and two legs. The mountain gorilla can run and jump.
This is an endangered animal because people hunt gorillas and destroy the mountains.

The ETHIOPIAN WOLF is a small mammal and it lives in African mountains. It is a carnivore because it eats small animals like mice or rats.
This wolf has got brown fair, two big ears and a long tail. Look at its legs! It has got four legs with claws. It can run very fast and jump. The Ethiopian wolf in an endangered animal because people destroy the African mountains.

GROUP 5: EUROPE
This continent is Europe that is next to Asia. We live in this continent because Spain is in the South of Europe. The weather in Europe can change,
for example in United Kingdom it rains a lot but in Spain it doesn’t rain a lot.

The EUROPEAN HAMSTER is a very small mammal that lives in farms or in the countryside. It is an omnivore because it eats plants and small insects.
It can run.
This mammal has got brown and black fur and a short tail. Look at its face! It has got long whiskers. The European hamster is a nocturnal animal because during the day it sleeps. It is an endangered animal because people destroy the places where it lives.

This is a SAND LIZARD. It is a reptile and it lives on the grass. 
It eats small insects and spiders because it is a carnivore. It can run and it sleeps a lot.  
The sand lizard has got brown and black scales but in summer it has got green scales. It has got a long tail and claws. It is endangered because people destroy the places where this lizard lives.

 GROUP 6: ASIA

This continent is Asia is the largest continent in the world and it is next to Europe. The highest mountain in the world is in Asia it is called Mount Everest.

This is the SNOW LEOPARD and it lives in the cold mountains of Asia. It is a big mammal; it is 2 meters long! The snow leopard is a carnivore because it eats small animals. It can run very fast.                                                 This mammal has got a special fur because it is white and black. Look at its eyes! It has got cat eyes. It has got a long tail, claws and long whiskers.
The snow leopard is endangered because people hunt them because they like its white and black fur.

The RED HEADED VULTURE is a bird that lives in the forest of Asia.
This bird is a carnivore because it eats meat of dead animals. It can fly.
 
 

It has got 2 wings, a beak and black feathers, look at its head! It hasn’t got feathers on its head. This bird has got dangerous claws, be careful!
The red headed vulture is endangered because throw rubbish in the forest and it eats the rubbish.

GROUP 7: OCEANIA


This continent is Oceania. This continent has got many isles like Australia and there are special animals here because it doesn't rain a lot.

The TAKAHE is a bird that lives in Oceania. This bird is an omnivore and it eats fruits and insects. It can’t fly but it can run.
  t has got green and blue feathers, a red beak, a short tail and 2 small wings; but it can’t fly. Look at its legs! It has got 2 short legs with claws.
The Takahe is endangered because I was hunted by people.

The KOMODO DRAGON is the biggest reptile in the world; it is 3 meters long! This reptile is a carnivore and it eats dead animals. It can run.
This animal has got brow scales, a long tail and claws. This animals is dangerous, be careful with it!
The Komod dragon is an endangered animal because people put it in zoos.
